An AI agent workflow combines a goal, instructions, access to tools or information, and a way to decide what to do next. Its usefulness depends on the surrounding process and review.

Before building, define these five things

  1. Goal: A specific outcome the agent is intended to support.
  2. Inputs: The information it may use and where that information comes from.
  3. Tools: Which systems it may access and which actions are allowed.
  4. Boundaries: What it must ask a person to review or approve.
  5. Checks: How you will test accuracy, behavior, failure handling, and quality.
TRY THIS

Write a one-page brief for an agent that prepares a draft weekly task summary. Define its sources, output, missing-data behavior, and the person who approves the final summary.

Test with ordinary cases and difficult cases before relying on the workflow.
